With over 15,000 members on Facebook, Manila Tennis Enthusiasts (MTE) is the largest online tennis community in the Philippines. We spoke to the group's founders about how it started and where it's going.
How It Started
MTE began in 2019 as a small group of friends who wanted to find hitting partners in Metro Manila. "Back then, finding someone to play with at your level was really difficult," says co-founder Mark Santos. "We created the Facebook group just to organize games."
Growth During the Pandemic
When outdoor activities resumed after lockdowns, tennis saw a massive surge in popularity in the Philippines. MTE's membership grew from 2,000 to 10,000 in just six months during 2021.
What MTE Does Today
The group organizes weekly social play sessions, monthly tournaments, and beginner clinics across Metro Manila. They also maintain a "court guide" document that lists available courts by area — which inspired Rally PH's own court directory.
