Why Finding a Partner Matters
Unlike running or gym workouts, you can't practice meaningful tennis alone. The quality of your hitting partner directly affects how fast you improve — a regular partner who pushes you just above your comfort zone is worth more than any coaching tip.
The problem in the Philippines: there's no centralized way to find hitting partners. But there are proven approaches that work.
Become a Regular at a Court
The most reliable way to find hitting partners is to become a regular at a local court. Most active courts in the Philippines have informal communities — players who show up at the same times each week.
Show up consistently for 2-3 weeks, introduce yourself, and ask if anyone wants to rally. You'll have hitting partners faster than any app or group could provide.
Join Group Coaching Sessions
Many coaches in the Philippines run group clinics — usually 4-8 players at similar skill levels. These are the fastest way to meet multiple potential hitting partners in a single session, since everyone there is actively looking to play more.
Ask your coach if they run group sessions, or check our coaching directory for coaches near you.
Join a Tennis Club
Tennis clubs organize regular play days, social mixers, ladder competitions, and interclub matches. They're built around connecting players — making them the most natural path to finding regular partners.
Many clubs welcome all levels. Some operate out of public courts with no membership fees — just show up on the scheduled day.
Tips for Finding the Right Partner
- Be honest about your skill level. A beginner rallying with an advanced player isn't productive for either side. Use the USTA NTRP self-assessment ↗ to gauge where you are.
- Start with doubles. Lower pressure, more forgiving of skill gaps, and you meet 3 people instead of 1.
- Try different partners before committing to regular sessions. Chemistry matters — you want someone reliable, punctual, and at a compatible level.
- Set expectations upfront. Are you looking for competitive sets or casual rallying? Morning or evening? Weekdays or weekends? Clear expectations save both players' time.
