WTA tennis is coming home to Manila.
The Philippine Women's Open 2026 — a WTA 125K tournament — runs from January 23 to February 1 at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center, and the combination of international talent, Philippine passion, and a freshly renovated venue makes this one of the most anticipated sporting events of the year.
The Venue
Rizal Memorial Tennis Center has been getting a facelift. As of early January, renovation work was 70% complete, with a planned capacity of 2,000 seats spread across 7 tennis courts with bleachers. The original facility seated 1,578 — the upgrade brings more fans closer to the action.
It's a venue with history. Generations of Filipino tennis players have competed on these courts. Now it's being modernized to host world-class women's tennis.
The Draw
The seedings tell the story of the level this tournament has attracted:
- Tatjana Maria (GER) — the experienced German veteran as top seed
- Alexandra Eala (PHI) — our own, entering as a wildcard with a No. 2 seeding. Home crowd advantage: activated.
- Solana Sierra
- Donna Vekic — former top-20 player and a genuine threat to take the title
- Camila Osorio (COL)
The Filipino Contingent
Beyond Eala, Filipino tennis gets multiple representatives:
- Stefi Aludo — in the qualifying draw, looking to build on her junior success
- Tennielle Madis — also qualifying, making her WTA 125 debut
- Paige Javier — competing in the main draw
Three Filipinas in a WTA-level tournament on home soil. This is what development looks like.
Why This Tournament Matters
Having a WTA-level event in the Philippines isn't just about tennis. It's about showing young Filipino athletes — especially young women — that world-class competition can happen right here. Not in some faraway country they've never been to, but in Manila, at Rizal Memorial, where they can buy a ticket and watch the best up close.
That's how you build a tennis culture. Not just by producing stars, but by bringing the stars to your doorstep.
See you courtside.
