Alexandra Eala finishes her 2026 season at the Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open (WTA 250, 2–8 November). Cam Williams of Tennis Talk has covered it twice: once on the draw and once on her first-round match against Alycia Parks. His view is that the path is hard, but Eala should get through the opener.

No. 2 seed, and still no easy path

Eala moved up to the No. 2 seed after Diana Shnaider withdrew, and she sits at the bottom of the bracket. Williams does not think the seeding helps much.

"That's not an easy draw … Eala's draw is very, very tricky." — Cam Williams, Tennis Talk

If she beats Parks, her likely round-of-16 opponent is the winner of Xinran Sun vs Tereza Valentova. Valentova has beaten Eala before. Sun is a 16-year-old wildcard in the middle of a breakout run. Both would be uncomfortable matchups.

Round 1: the Parks trilogy

Williams calls Parks "super, super dangerous" and expects a "really fun first round". This will be a "blockbuster trilogy": their third meeting of 2026, with the head-to-head at 1–1 this year.

  • Australian Open: Parks won 0–6, 6–3, 6–2. Eala took the first set easily, then got "a little bit spooked" as Parks found her range.
  • Toronto: Eala won 6–1, 4–6, 6–2. Williams said it was "really close" and "went the distance."

It is the last week of the season for both players, and both will want to finish on a win.

Form check

Alycia Parks (No. 58, 32–34 this season). Williams says her form is good. She came through qualifying and reached the quarterfinals in Tokyo. Her best win of the year was over Diana Shnaider in Doha. Her plan is simple: use the serve and her big game to push Eala around, and keep the errors down.

Alex Eala (No. 18, 43–25 this season). After a rough stretch following the US Open, Williams says her form is better. She reached the quarterfinals last week and lost some tight matches to Shnaider. Her season highlights include the Washington title and a win over Elena Rybakina in Berlin. Her key is to "weather the storm": stay patient while Parks mixes winners with errors, and take the openings when they come.

The pick: Eala in three

Williams picks Eala in three sets. His reasoning is that she "figured it out in Toronto" and learned "how to manage Parks with that big game."

After that comes the Sun–Valentova winner, which is why he still sees the draw as tricky rather than kind. With this as her last event of the year, the aim is to close the season with wins.
