Alexandra Eala plays Tereza Valentova of the Czech Republic in the round of 16 at the Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open today, Thursday 5 November, at 6:30 PM on Center Court (Manila and Hong Kong share the same clock).
Eala is the No. 2 seed in Hong Kong and arrives as a new career-high World No. 17. Valentova, 19, is one of the young Czech players on the rise this season.
How they got here
Eala opened on Tuesday against a late change of opponent. Lucky loser Emerson Jones replaced Alycia Parks, and Eala won 6–4, 6–3. She led early in both sets and closed it out on her second match point. Match report: Eala Beats Late Sub Jones 6-4, 6-3 to Open Hong Kong Bid.
Valentova beat Japanese qualifier Himeno Sakatsume 6–3, 7–5 in her opener.
The head-to-head
Valentova leads 2–0. She won their first meeting in Osaka in 2025 and beat Eala again in Doha earlier this year, according to the Hong Kong, China Tennis Association. That makes this the first real test of Eala's week.
"I've had very tough matches against her in the past. I think she's proven to be a really good player… All I can do is do my best to prepare, and when I'm out there, fight with everything I have." — Alex Eala
