Fresh off her Asian Games bronze, Alex Eala is still training in Nagoya, and she found time for a crossover with pole vault champion EJ Obiena. The two posted a TikTok lip-syncing to Parokya ni Edgar's "Akala" before showing off their Asian Games medals, GMA reports.
Eala captioned the clip "With the GOAT," tagging Obiena. Parokya ni Edgar vocalist Chito Miranda reposted it on Facebook: "Naging kilig song yung 'Akala' haha! Joke lang, mga idol! Congrats, and mahal namin kayo!"
The medals tell the story. Eala took bronze in women's singles after a semifinal loss to eventual gold medalist Wang Xiyu of China. Obiena, now a back-to-back Asian Games champion, won gold in the men's pole vault with a new Games record of 5.91 m.
There has been no rest for Eala. She kept practising in Nagoya even before the medal ceremony earlier in the week, and Obiena dropped by that session to watch and even hit with her, Pang-Masa reports. The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) had already shared a video of the pair's friendly rally a few days ago.
Now she is back to intensive training to sharpen parts of her game, with no regrets about her Asiad decisions. That includes passing on the mandatory China Open in Beijing to play for Team Philippines, despite a looming penalty. Next up is the Wuhan Open, Oct. 12–18.
