Alexandra Eala is into the Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open final after beating Greece’s Maria Sakkari 7–5, 3–6, 6–4 in a rain-interrupted semifinal at Victoria Park on Saturday, 7 November 2026. A 4–1 lead in the deciding set became 4–4 before the Filipina won the final two games to secure a title match against Claire Liu.

From a first-set fight to a forced decider

Eala took the opening set 7–5. Inquirer’s point-by-point coverage describes a contested first set with repeated service breaks before she broke from 5–5 and served it out.

Sakkari answered by taking the second set 6–3. It was the first set Eala had dropped in Hong Kong: the official draw records straight-set wins over Emerson Jones, Tereza Valentova and Antonia Ruzic in the preceding rounds. This time, Eala had to win a decider.

The third set: 4–1, then 4–4, then the close

She built a 3–0 lead in the third set, then reached 4–1. But Sakkari held, broke Eala and held again to draw level at 4–4. The comeback and score progression are documented in Rappler’s match report and Inquirer’s live account.

Eala’s response came in the ninth game: she held for 5–4, giving up only one point, according to Rappler. She then broke Sakkari to finish 6–4.

Staying focused through the rain

The interruptions were part of the contest, not just its backdrop. Play repeatedly stopped and restarted; Inquirer’s running account records rain pauses both between games and during them. The live account repeatedly notes play resuming after the court was dried, with further pauses during the second set and early in the third.

In her post-match press conference published by Sports Action HK, Eala described the difficulty of playing a few points and having to stop again, and the need to refocus and remain positive. Rappler’s post-match reporting likewise attributes her response to a conscious effort to stay positive and concentrate on the next points.

Support that stayed through the stoppages

Inquirer reported a packed Centre Court. The South China Morning Post reported Eala saying that many spectators stayed through the interruptions, even during the warm-up.

In the Sports Action HK press conference, Eala also spoke about her pride in representing the Philippines.

Next: Claire Liu in Sunday’s final

Eala’s route has already included tiebreak sets against Valentova in the round of 16 and Ruzic in the quarterfinals. Against Sakkari, she added a different recovery: winning after dropping a set and then losing her lead in the decider.

She faces American Claire Liu on Sunday, 8 November, after Liu beat Alexandra Shubladze 7–5, 6–4 in the other semifinal. The official order of play, rechecked after midnight on 8 November, lists the singles final on Centre Court, 4 PM PHT, after the doubles final. Hong Kong and Manila share the same clock.

Looking ahead in the Sports Action HK press conference, Eala distinguished staying calm from feeling relaxed. Follow Rally’s Alex Eala hub for related coverage.
