Russia's Tatiana Prozorova, world No. 180, beat Belgium's Sofia Costoulas 5-7, 7-6(2), 6-2 on Tuesday to set up a first meeting with No. 3 seed Alex Eala in the Singapore Open round of 16.

The match is scheduled for Thursday, not before 6:30 p.m., Spin.ph reports. Filipino fans may remember Prozorova from the inaugural WTA 125 tournament in Manila.

The draw also lost a big name. No. 2 seed Amanda Anisimova withdrew with a wrist injury, and lucky loser Viktoria Morvayova took her place. Anisimova, the world No. 11, had been Eala's projected semifinal opponent.

Eala, the world No. 18, has a first-round bye. Thursday will be her first match since a three-set loss to her friend Iva Jovic in the US Open third round on September 6. Singapore is her 24th tournament of the year.

She was all business on Tuesday, the Inquirer reports, practicing with hitting partner Aliaksandra Sasnovich under assistant coach Sandro Viaene.

The WTA 500 event at OCBC Arena is her warm-up for the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
