It's back to business for Alex Eala. The world No. 18 is set to return to the WTA Tour at the Wuhan Open in China, a WTA 1000 event running Oct. 12–18, GMA News reports. This time, she makes a main-draw return.
The trip is a chance to bounce back. At the Asian Games in Japan, Eala lost the semifinal to China's Wang Xiyu, the eventual champion, 6-3, 3-6, 2-6, and settled for her second straight Asian Games bronze. A week earlier, she fell to Tatiana Prozorova in the second round of the WTA 500 Singapore Open, 6-4, 5-7, 3-6.
Wuhan has been a tough stop so far. In 2024, Eala lost to Katerina Siniakova in the first round. In 2025, she failed to reach the main draw after losing to Japan's Moyuka Uchijima in qualifying.
It will also be her first WTA 1000 since Cincinnati in August, where she reached the third round before losing to Amanda Anisimova, 6-4, 4-6, 2-6. She returns to the tour after skipping the China Open to play for the Philippines at the Asiad.
Beyond Wuhan, the Filipina is currently listed for the Ningbo Open in China and the Toray Pan Pacific Open in Japan. Both are WTA 500 tournaments, and both are crucial to her world ranking. For readers in the Philippines, Wuhan shares our time zone, so match times there read the same on your clock.
