Alex Eala beat France's Diane Parry 6-3, 6-1 in 1 hour, 17 minutes on Monday evening in the first round of the WTA 500 Ningbo Open.
Eala, world No. 20, took control from 3-3 in the opening set. She won seven straight games to lead 6-3, 4-0, the WTA reports. Parry broke in the fifth game of the second set, but Eala broke straight back and held to close, per ABS-CBN News.
The win snapped a three-match losing streak for Eala, who had lost her opening matches in Singapore and Wuhan, according to the WTA. It was her 34th tour-level win of 2026. Before this season, she had 15 career tour-level wins.
Eala finished with 12 winners and 9 unforced errors. Parry, world No. 34, had 11 winners and 25 unforced errors, WTA figures show.
"I'm very happy with my performance. I think it was a really good first round, tough first round," Eala said afterward, per the WTA. She also thanked the crowd: "Thank you so much for the support. It really makes my job very fun, even in the difficult moments."
In the Round of 16, Eala will face either sixth seed Diana Shnaider or qualifier Yulia Putintseva. It would be her first meeting with either player, the WTA reports.
