Alex Eala is the highest-ranked WTA player on the initial women's singles entry list for the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, GMA News reports.
The world No. 18 will play singles and doubles in Nagoya, where tennis runs September 27 to October 3. She is chasing gold, and a potential path toward the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Other notable entries include China's Zhang Shuai and Wang Xiyu, and Thailand's Lanlana Tararudee and Mananchaya Sawangkaew, Eala's SEA Games finals opponent. Indonesia's Janice Tjen is skipping the Games after the WTA did not grant her an exemption.
The rest of her Asian swing also took shape on Thursday:
- Wuhan Open (WTA 1000, October 12–18): Eala is among the first 20 players released by the tournament and the WTA, Philstar reports. Forty-eight of the Top 50 are entered. Wuhan is a chance to make up ranking points she is expected to lose by skipping the China Open in Beijing.
- Hong Kong Tennis Open (WTA 250, November 2–8): Eala is expected to return, GMA News reports. The tournament named her among its featured players with Paula Badosa, Wang Xinyu and Diana Shnaider. Last year she reached the round of 16, where Victoria Mboko came back to win 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
PHILTA has asked the WTA to exempt her from Beijing, and the WTA has not responded yet. She faces a possible $10,000 fine.
First up is the WTA 500 Singapore Tennis Open, September 21–27.
